“The Earth, a gift from the Stars”

When I create I sing, I move, I am pleasure, I am passion, I am earth, I disappear, the mental construction of my being vanishes. Shapes pierce me as I travel to forgotten times and I remember ancestral ceremonies of offerings to Mother Earth. I use different clays and glazes, layer upon layer, the imprint of space sinks in time and the alchemy lives on the transformation of the elements that become the final piece. Each one of this pieces is unique, handmade with my intuition, my love and my soul.

My encounter with ceramics began eight years ago through my astrology teacher who, while reading my astral chart, invited me to play with the possibility of connecting with clay. When he died, I wanted to honor his vision so I began studies in the School/Workshop Ixió of Argentona, Spain. Over the years and my passionate connection to clay, I created my own line of work and artistic expression. I apply different techniques with varieties of clay in my studio and I offer workshops centered on the Raku technique.

So you may offer your blood, your waters.
So you may burn copal and myrrh.
So they may preside your altar and  join your prayers.
So you may connect with your ancestors.
 Or for what you wish.

Photography

“I focus on the light that casts the shadow”

I find difficult to classify my photography, label it, or give it a style, because it doesn’t belong to the linear concept of the mind that wants to place what it perceives into a safe box. It belongs to the realm of imagination, metaphor, raw emotions and the unconscious. The observer travels through the spiral of the unknown so he or she may feel, connect, vibrate and transform the way of seeing and perceiving to become part of the whole spectrum of creativity.

I believe art as a sacred space for expression and communication, not only of the personal unconscious but also the collective unconscious, building bridges between the visible and the invisible, the right and left sides of the brain, expanding the mind. Connecting us with our purest being, free from conditionings, shaking the foundation of our perception.

“Myriam Negre’s work brings together telluric activism, women’s empowerment and ancestral symbolism; magic for the senses.” Dra. Montserrat Hormigos Vaquero, member of the Art Critics Spanish Society.

“Myriam Negre’s work connects us to our roots and our most profound feminine essence, denigrated by patriarchy.” Irene Ballester Buigues, feminist and Doctor in History of Art.

“The first time I was in front of her photographs, the strenght and radicality of her visual proposal impacted me beyond measure.” Dra. Cristina Mateos Casado, sociologist and specialist in gender violence and diversity.

My relationship with Video Art began in Los Angeles during my studies at ArtCenter College of Design. Through Video Art and performance I integrate: poetry, nature, diversity of bodies and new consciousness. In my latest works I connect ancestral powers that spin around menstruation, women’s circles and our ancestral remembrance.

“To return to the womb to die is a radical step in women’s consciousness”

In 2015 I made a short film about the awakening to the sacred dimension of menstruation, to make visible the taboo around menstrual blood and to place it in the center women’s power. “Red Path” has been screened in Film Festivals in New York, Los Angeles, Mexico and Sweden, receiving a very positive criticism and great admiration. “Red Path” is available to be shown in Women’s Circles, Schools, Universities, Associations, or other spaces of interest and education.
